Samuli Kemppi comes from a small city in Finland, but geographical distance hasn't stopped him from
becoming one of Europe's leading techno producers.
Track hunting was more challenging in the pre-internet era and in the late eighties, there were only one
or two radio shows that played these unheard sounds that immediately caught his attention.
Having worked as a DJ since the early 90s, his first project was the deep house duo Sam & Gigi, with
the vocalist Laura Petris-Forsell. The project led to a brace of singles. Deep house has always been big
in Helsinki. In 2005 Sam & Gigi had come to and end with their last gig, and Samuli went back to his
roots, techno.
In early 2000 the radio show Deep Space Helsinki at Basso Radio 102,4 MHz, was born, an idea he started
with his old friend Juho Kusti.
The collaboration later on grew into Deep Space Helsinki events at Kuudes Linja, in Helsinki. In 2012
the first release on the label with the same name came out and has so far led up to 3 split EPs between
them both.
The entire idea behind the DSH project was and has always been to push contemporary techno sound with an
edge, inviting guests such as Cio D'or, Peter Van Hoesen, Inigo Kennedy, Shifted, Sendai and Donato
Dozzy.
With several releases, a debut album and a lot of remixes, Samuli is now to be found on many respected
labels such as Mote Evolver, Prologue and M_REC LTD. After the sad event in 2015 when M_REC LTDs founder
Max M passed away, Samuli felt he had lost a home. During 2016 it was time to take the next step and
build a new one, and out out that grew his own label Power Of Voltages.
